Advanced Placement Government and Politics is a course designed to prepare students for the AP Government and Politics Exam. The course covers the equivalent of two semesters (6 credit hours) of college level General American Government. It provides an analytical perspective on government and politics in the United States. This course involves both the study of general concepts used to interpret U.S. politics and the analysis of specific case studies. It also requires familiarity with the various institutions, groups, beliefs, and ideas that constitute U.S. political reality. The course will expand on topics learned in US History. It is a rigorous methods and analytical course, with a significant writing component. It is intended for students who are willing to commit considerable time to studying and research outside of class.
