Chemistry is a course based on investigations of matter, chemical reactions, and the role of energy in those reactions. Students enrolled in Chemistry will compare and contrast useful models of the structure and properties of matter and the mechanisms of its interactions. Students enrolled in this course will gain an understanding of the history of chemistry, explore its uses in various careers, investigate chemical questions and problems related to personal and societal issues, discover relations between chemistry and daily life, the universe, and the interconnectedness of other realms of science.
Chemistry covers all aspects of matter, life, and most natural events. The study of chemistry will require a strong orientation with the vocabulary and building blocks of science. There will be a strong component of homework and students will be expected to keep pace with assigned tasks and to come to class prepared. By completion of this course students should have a much greater understanding of the field of chemistry and an increased familiarity with its terms, uses, and the separate fields within its study.
