Junior English is a required course that uses American Literature as a focus for a variety of writing assignments. The class will look at a range of literature from drama and poetry to short stories and novels. This course furthers the study of grammar, composition, and literacy through increasingly complex works of fiction and nonfiction including recurrent themes in American literature and foundational works of American political philosophy. English III is designed for students planning to continue their education at a four-year college or university.
The course will provide instruction in composition, including the development of essays in a variety of modes with an emphasis on analytical essays. Research skills will be developed through the writing of a formal research paper. Grammar will be taught to improve students’ writing. Emphasis will be placed on shifts in tense and person, parallelism, sentence variety, transitions, introductions, conclusions, word choice, and proofreading errors.
